Active Rain - A FREE blogging platform for the Real Estate industry. Pros: Blogs are optimized for REALTORS®. Cons: Very little customization available.

Blogger - The most popular blogging platform, owned by Google, also FREE to get started. Pros: Customization is easy, even for the novice. Cons: Not real estate focused, Blogger URLs often targeted as spam.

Wordpress - Another FREE blogging platform, and the easiest one to get started with. Pros: Start blogging in 30 seconds flat. Cons: Not real estate focused.

TypePad - Another very popular blogging platform that offers great ease of use and customization, including widgets. Easy to set up and to start blogging right away even for the most "green" bloggers yet, offers tools and customization for very experienced bloggers as well. Prices are nominal and start at just $4.95 per month.

 

About this site: This four-part blogging tutorial was created as a supplement to the 2007 Virginia Association of REALTORS® (VAR) Convention & Expo 2007.  The goal of this site is to promote the use of the blog as tool for real estate agents who are new to blogging and want to incorporate it into their business.  It is an overview of the fundamentals of blogging and focuses on the basic aspects of this medium.
